I am a PCDMIS programmer, just for curiosity, is this a good career to continue with?

I work for a small size company as an inspector and having been programming CMM with PC-DMIS 2016 for about 1 year. The pay is not that good (under $20 per hr in Bay Area, CA) probably because I dont have too much experiences (i can make a program for inspecting complex parts tho). Is PC-DMIS programmer in high demand, especially in CA and does it pay well? Is this a good career to continue with?

  • p.huang09 - I see your query from a little different perspective. This is your first post in a year of working in this field. Since you are asking about money, I would suggest that this is probably not the field for you. Don't get me wrong - you can make a decent living, but you will never get rich. There are so many other things at which you can make more money. Personally, I enjoy the work, the challenge, the learning experience. I also work for a good company, and work with many people that I consider my friends - people that respect me and I respect them. I have had so many jobs in other fields where I couldn't say all this. For me, these things are most important in my choice of work. Money is about 8th on the list. If money were much higher on my list, I'd be doing something else. My advice is to be honest with yourself --- what does your particular list look like? Money is a very important factor to some, and not to others. I think most of us on this forum do OK, money-wise. We can all pay our bills, and, hopefully, create a decent life and retirement. Very few of us are summering in the Hamptons. There are urban legends of some CMMer's topping out near $100K. All I know is: I ain't no urban legend.
