Surface Finish

I have a 2 prt question.
- can R&R be performed on a profilometer, can and should be?
- is the standard profilometer is OK to be used on a curved surfaces?

  • I don't know what a standard profilometer is. Do you have a skidded or skidless profilometer? That's going to dictate how well you can follow the a curved surface, as the skidded profilometer has a mechanical filter that is going to vary in position as it moves across the surface.

Does your profilometer calculate the values on the unit itself, or is it computer driven? If it's computer driven, you can do a spline correction to the trace, but I forget if that actually matters for surface finish calculations.
