I have a part I have to check to NF-F-00-037 this is a French standard for tolerancing.
The issue I have is the standard is in French, I'm ok with most of it but there is one part I'm stuck with.
There is a tolerance box with the heading "congés et gorges de raccordement" Google translate gives "leave and connection grooves" !!
My best guess looking at similar standards we work to is that its for Broken edges but obviously I need to get this confirmed.
Well, how to say...?
I always use google translate when I don't understand something here...
I believe Dan is right, "congés" is about edges, like a chamfer when it's round and outter.
"Gorge de raccordement" is the same, but inner.
Hope it's clear !
Just for fun :
"gorge" is also throat or crag, and "congé" is also "holiday"...
Maybe the designer wanted to go on holiday in mountains ???????
Ah, those French !
Here is the english sub-title :
Railway equipment in general - Tolerancig of metal pieces - Permissibles deviations of dimensions with no tolerance indication - Allowance for machining
Not to highjack the thread here but Jeffman is already the star... Where in France do you live Jeffman? I spent 5 days in Cluses last summer. My friend stated there was a bunch of manufacturing in that area.
