I would recommend it regardless. Crashing the machine can happen any time, and is a sure fire way to destroy any tip.
Not to say it will happen to you, but it might happen to
someone before "a million hits". Not to mention if you have issues with dimensions, how you can try a different probe
now to determine if your current probe is bad, as opposed to ordering one
later anyway
