Hi at all. I'm a young guy, working in this company since 2015, and i still have a lot to learn in metrology... Sometimes, as a young metrologist, i have some doubts, like, how do you keep your granite clean? I especially use alcohol.
Denatured alcohol (ethyl alcohol/ethanol) is great for getting it clean to the point of being an air hockey table. For actually cleaning, there are granite cleaners out there, but I am partial to Simple Green with a scotch-brite pad. I clean the CMM table with it, and then clean the bearing surfaces with the alcohol.
For a granite inspection surface, you would probably want to clean the whole table with a cleaner and then finish it with an alcohol wipe down.
I just use what the Hexagon guys use here in the UK. Which is a fast drying solvent degreaser for the air bearing ways and for the rest of the granite I use a foaming degreaser. Does the job very well and you wouldn't belive the dirt that the foaming degreaser can pull off of the granite even when you think it is clean.
I was also told by a Hexagon tech that you can use the fast drying solvent for the scales as they do, however I dare not try that at all.
