No CAD & Hopeless

Hello!
I've got a recurring issue around here; no CAD models!
Our QM handles communications between us and our customers; I'm just a lowly programmer, and am not allowed to get into contact with Engineering to get CAD models to inspect their parts. Apparently the boss doesn't want to; literally told me "yeah, that's not gonna happen. Can't you program without a CAD model?"

Working Offline on a laptop, because the desktop is currently in the hands of IT, dead.
Dafuq?

What should I do

  • Ok, yes, you can program offline without a cad model. I could program all day like that because that is how we had to do it when there weren't cad models, yes I'm old. Today there is no reason not to have the cad model because either the print was made from a cad model or you have an old version of auto-cad and only have a 2-d layer. Even that would help.

But, what happens when you come across the non-prismatic portion of the part that has a profile associated with it? All done. Your boss is a jackhole.
  • I am agree on most part of your post like firing his Boss.....lol I do use same old way like you do some time but I figure most of engineer sometime don't think the way CMM Programmer think. (e.g according to coordinates and IJK Value one hole should be measured from back of part.) After one crash I quit using old method and test every move on grandpa's vehicle speed.
Do you have any thought about this kind of situation?
