cmm or blue light

I been a cmm programmer for 35 years and now this blue light has come along, does anyone have experience with both and can the blue light take the place of the cmm?

  • A few years ago (so this may be outdated...), maybe 5 years ago, we looked at Blue Light (and White Light) systems. We work with highly reflective materials. Real world numbers for repeatability/accuracy we got were on the order of 0.002-0.003" for that technology. We contacted some of our customers (aerospace industry) and none of them would allow us to buy-off parts with Blue Light technology. Then we debated about buying it anyway, as a 'shop aide' for manufacturing. In the end, we ruled against it for ONLY that purpose. Someday, though. Someday....
