Recently my boss found a non contact surface meter that is accurate to 35 microns (it has the symbol that looks like a backward y and m (ym)). We use inches for the whole company and the smallest surface finish we have is a 12 Ra. Our surface meters (mahr federal pocket surf meter) are set to microinch.
Is this non contact device accurate enough to check my surface finish?
I need help understanding before he buys it and makes me make it work.
dph51 has given you microns vs micro inches. To answer the last question, in MM it would be shown as 0.035. In inches it would be .00138, if you use 5 decimal places.
