Things are getting out of hand here at work! A CNC guy took vacation to Iceland and returned today and the company told him to go home and call in next Monday to see if he could com back to work! He wasn't sick he went out of the country and came back. Oh boy
Hi guys, for people that are shutting down-do you shut off your CMMs? We don't know yet what we'll be doing at my company-but if we have to shut down, should i make sure my machines are off? i've always been advised to not shut down

If you shut down for two weeks, I would shut the machine down. Lower the head all the way down and rest it on some foam so if you lose air pressure/something during shutdown, your machine won't be damaged.
Depends on the CMM... On a Global, there's an solenoid valve which cut the air to the air bearings, so if you shut down, the gantry press on the granite.
Not sure it's very good for the geometry.
On old Chameleon, Xcel (...), the air bearings was powered by air even if the controller was off.
unless the air is off. can't imagine a company keeping the compressors running if no one is there. If the shop is closing, park the machine, turn off the air, power down the controller.
