Someone who possesses an abundance of those skills and knowledge starting in this field will likely learn faster and perform better than someone who does not. In fact I am convinced there is a significant segment of the population that is innately unfit for CMM work. I have tried to teach a couple of those folks, and despite plenty of time and effort on both mine and their part, they never really got the hang of it.
Considering a WAL-MART store I know was starting people at $20.00 that seems low. I am totally disagreeing with post above..... I think 99% has to do with JOB MARKET. You in a major area with a lot of job opportunity ? Wages are way better because you have options.... Small po-dunk town with a CMM..... You may think they would value talent but where else are you going...NOt saying its right but it might be closer to reality than work experience....lets say it took me quite a few years of CMM programming at new job to get back to CNC setup rate I was at in Major Metro market. Factor in medical I may be even now.....
