Well we just purchased a Romer with blue light scanner, This will be the first one I ever worked with. Technically we are getting this for the machinist to scan over the parts quickly on various operations, plus there has been times we had some funky parts with very tight profile tolerances. This is suppose to save me time, because I'm backed up on the CMM writing programs.......wait that means I got to write at least simple programs for the arm, yeah this will make things faster. Maybe I can keep it simple enough to get them to make simple programs for simple checks???? Well it ought to be fun.
Kp61dude! Well This may take a bit to let you know how the scanner works, Hexagon was all in a hurry to sell the product, "If you want this deal, I have to have an answer by Tuesday!!!" That was proposed on Friday week before, So we had until Tuesday for the deal we spoke of, of course I jew-ed them down, to get it at that price. So of course you see above that Thursday, one week later all financing was in place, so I have heard nothing more back from then, to follow up on this, when will come in? This week, maybe? Next week? so I called them and said "just checking up, when is the arm to arrive?" They told me on normal basis 6-8 weeks, but you might be getting it in 4 weeks. Really???. Really???? Are you guys a new business or something, You have none on hand??? "Well, we make it to order." So you guys have assembly guys or gals sitting in a factory twiddling their thumbs waiting for me to buy one, and then they'll put it together and it'll take a couple weeks after that. So I guess you can do the same. twiddle your thumbs and I'll let you know.

They don't keep CMM machines on hand, once we decided to buy a second one, we had to wait like 9+ months for them to build it. When we got our arm, we cheaped out and bought a demo that was ready to go out the door.
Well, there's another thing
Matthew D. Hoedeman now they are forcing aftermarket dealers if they sell used ones or demos, before they can hand you over a demo or used, any kind of warranty, requires the machine to be sent to Hexagon for refurbishment and calibration, which in my mind is fine. but this process takes 3-4 weeks, back at square one with a lessor warranty. I even asked if they had a loner, not needing the scanner, just an arm so my fellow colleagues could get some sort of jump start on learning this ever so simple software. They said they had none, guess this is like the great toilet paper shortage.
this wasn't from an aftermarket, straight from Hex. I think it was from one of the Ohio Hex centers, but may have been from the Novi center. Anyway, it was one they used for contract work, then sold it to us so they could 'move up' to a newer model.
. Maybe I can keep it simple enough to get them to make simple programs for simple checks???? Well it ought to be fun.
