Can anyone tell me what the life span is on the drive belts? I was inspecting the condition of ours on a B&S Global and noticed the waviness on the Y axis belt as you can see in the attached photo.
The build date is 2005 putting it at 17 years old. Not sure what happens when they let go but I'm thinking it's cheaper to replace now then have a failure cause more damage later.
When was the last time the machine was serviced? Could be loose, pulleys not parallel..that type of belt should not have ripples under tension if assembled properly.
If you the CMM at high speeds for 17 yrs though....I'd have it serviced if it has been a while
I don't think that could hurt the functionality of the machine as it currently is but I agree with your assessment, It is probably better to replace it before it fails.
Whenever Hexagon comes all they ever do is calibrate. They tell me everything looks good and continue doing what I am as far as keeping everything clean.
Is there something else they should be doing besides calibration?
The belts appear to have a fair amount of tension, I think they are just drying out and losing flexibility.
They will do more that "just calibrate" if you ask them for the PM option. It is slightly more $$ but they will check belts and drives and other things on their list. I know that when I was asking for calibration quotes there were several options on the sheet
