Where I worked prior, we had a roamer arm with a blue light scanner. Our operator/programmer used dollar store spray foot powder. It worked but we were dealing with +/-.020 tolerances. Not sure if it would work with tighter tolerance measurements but, I am sure nothing inspected using that method will have athlete's foot.
Hmmm. I bet that works pretty good.
I used to do a lot of ultrasonic NDT inspection. The company was too cheap to buy real couplant gel so we had to use liquid hand soap. It did the job, but it was a real mess to clean up.
I've always used SPOTCHECK SKD-S2 AEROSOL DEVELOPER (magnaflux crack developer)

BUT, I did have a guy give me a couple samples of AESUB spray, 2 different kinds. One is a permanent coating and one is a VANISHING coating, as in, no cleaning after. I've not used any of it.
