OFF-TOPIC got really boring.... What you all been up to ?

TO start it off.... I hunt and train pointing dogs in my off time. 100+ birds in the bag this fall ( and a few deer ) and the Lakes froze over last weekend so some hard water fishing happening in Minesoooootahhh !!!

  • There is about a 95% chance that I will be buying this Sept 8th or 9th, depends on the sale they are having at the Expo, and all the answers I can get about it. Either the 520 (25"x50"x7" @ $5000) or the 510 (25"x25"x7" @ $4000). They also have a 3D scanning head attachment for $350 for the thing. Also, a 2watt ($500) or 7watt ($1000) laser attachment for it as well. Use your own router or get a 2hp water-cooled spindle ($1000) or a 3hp water-cooled spindle ($1400). There is also a motorized 4th axis (lathe) unit.

    i have a 7w china/ebay laser engraver (it was like 400 bucks for the entire assembly). it is not nearly as powerful as you would think. needed like 20 passes at 100% intensity and 1% speed to cut through a 5/32" thick piece of birch veneer wood i got at home depot. and it burned the edges to a crisp.

    another thing to consider. any higher than 7w will mandate smoke/fume capture and mitigation/ventilation plumbing.
