Gift Idea Thread

Alright yall. I have 3 kids and a wife and I need some gift ideas. I have 2 daughters 8 and 6 and my son who is 4.

What are some gifts that you have gotten or given that was unique or that you really liked? Feel free to give other ideas not related to my family lol
  • Two of my sons want snacks and food from other countries. So we ordered some Korean and Japanese snack foods.

We've done those science dig kits, where they can dig into a small hand sized rock to find "crystals" or "animal teeth". It's messy, but they loved it.

We're getting my 9 year old daughter piano lessons.

One year I got the "world's hottest chocolate".
  • Fossil watches have great prices this time of year and come with free engraving, which people love.
  • Gift cards are usually my go to with the wife. Saves time on returns for stuff she doesn't like...kids' gifts depend on whatever it is they're into at the time. My daughters theme this year is moana so could be worse
  • Get the ladies all matching Tiffany bracelets, for the boy any type of cars trucks or aircraft toys will do. I have 2 daughters 21 and 18 they and my wife all still have their Bracelets I gave them 10 years ago. My son is now 15 this year I got him a Bulova Futro watch.
  • LEGO for everyone!!!

I loathe gift cards. My sister in law (in her infinite wisdom) kept all of her gift cards in her wallet. guess what happened when she lost it? $1400 in gift cards gone. Plus there's always the issue of the $3 left over that basically gets consumed with fees, the concerns with them being skimmed when buying them nowadays... In general gift cards suck, except for treats, like dairy queen or something. Nobody will turn down impromptu free ice cream!

My wife is super practical and despises shopping for herself, so I usually go the practical route. I gift her an inside & outside detail for her car, or a big home improvement spend, like last year I committed to entirely gutting and remodeling our hallway bathroom (down to the studs). This year, it's replacing the remaining windows in the house. One year, I gave her $500 cash and scheduled a shopping spree with one of her friends who seemed to be one of those girls who lay out her clothes a week in advance. They had a blast and she actually bought clothes without stressing out.

My 14 year old daughter is getting a big "intro to makeup" assortment, and I think we plan to get her some jewelry. Last year & birthdays it was all about the phone and earbuds... She's a freshman and now wants to impress boys I presume.

my 6 year old boy is absolutely getting lego. He's a little engineer so i'll probably get him one of those stem kit subscriptions, and maybe some more real tools. he legit has a volt meter, 3/8" ratchet set, open ends, screwdrivers that i often borrow... you name it.

For kiddos or spouses who have it all, start looking into making "forced family fun": IE booking experiences: road trips, kart racing, indoor skydiving, museums, concerts, comedy gigs, date nights or fancy dinners at new restaurants...

My daughter's family.... all 8 of them. We bought tickets for a day at the Chicago LegoLand for the whole family. and we are going along too. My daughter loved the idea as the kids have about thing they want or need. Even my 19 year old granddaughter was thrilled at going there too and bringing her boyfriend along too. I've got grandkids that live in KC (Mo) and the Philippines that I cannot see other than online chat and we give store specific gift cards (on their mom's suggestions). I've got one grandson that lives an hour away (haven't seen him in 6 years due to family problems and Christmas heartache is real) gets a Target gift card as that is where his mom likes to shop.

The wife and I talk about what we want and then I go buy what I want and she buys what she wants and we put them under the tree (if they fit LOL) for Christmas.
  • As a kid i loved LEGO. They have really cool sets. Since your son is a bit younger, LEGO DUPLO should be suitable.
My brother collects Topps soccer cards so he gets some of those, my mom gets a Tefal optigrill and my dad is getting a new office chair.
  • Pearl Necklace for the wife if she likes jewelry (you can get a pretty nice necklace for like $200)
For young kids, my go-to is a scooter if they don't already have one.
Board games are always a big winner too

Also, the most valuable thing you can give your family is time and attention so maybe plan a fun day or go out and throw the ball with your kids or kick the soccer ball around!
  • I ended up getting deciding what to get the kiddos. My kids are HUGE into arts and crafts. Always drawing me and their mom pictures of cats/dogs/ the family/ pokemon. So I bought the two oldest 3D printing pens and for my son I got him a RC car that has its wheels on two separate axis. so it can flip roll and crash and keep going.

My wife and I always do presents together, for example the oldest got a hover board, middle one got a ballerina bar and my son got a automatic nerf gun. but then we each get them a present from just mom and just dad. So hopefully they like my presents more than they like moms lol.

For the wife... i rearranged the living room for a better Christmas tree setup. So our couch is kinda in the middle of the living room now. So im going to build her a behind the couch table with outlets to hold our drinks and stuff. I appreciate all of the gift ideas though. Hopefully the couch table turns out alright. Maybe i can draw one with the 3D pens lol.
