Beer

Before anyone begins making allegations, the Beer thread was not deleted on purpose.

While cleaning up old off-topic threads I inadvertently missed excluding that one. As a way to make up for it, I've reinstated the rep points.

Thats up in my area. I broke 40 for the first time ever this year (39) but have shot over 50 on same 9 (league..Ironwood in Hinkley). You could say I'm consistantly inconsistant!

We should get out sometime! The greens must have been a challenge to say the least!
  • Hurray....finally, Some Useful Research!

A drink a day for a longer life: study By Michael Kahn

Drinking is healthy, exercise is healthy, and doing a little of both is even healthier, Danish researchers reported on Wednesday.

People who neither drink nor exercise have a 30 to 49 percent higher risk of heart disease than people who do one or both of the activities, the researchers said in the European Heart Journal.

"The main finding is there seems to be an additional beneficial effect of drinking one to two drinks per day and doing at least moderate physical activity," said Morten Gronbaek of the University of Southern Denmark, who led the study.

Several major studies have found that light to moderate drinking -- up to two drinks a day on a regular basis -- is associated with a lower risk of heart disease, and some have also found this leads to a lower risk of some cancers.

But the Danish study, one of the largest of its kind to examine the combined effect of drinking and exercise, found there were additional protective effects gained from doing both.

The researchers collected information on the drinking and exercise habits of nearly 12,000 men and women aged 20 years or older between 1981 and 1983.

Over the next 20 years, some 1,200 of the participants died from heart disease and about 5,900 died from other causes.

Non-drinkers had a 30 percent to 31 percent higher risk of heart disease compared to moderate drinkers, no matter the amount of physical activity they undertook. Moderate consumption was defined as between 1 to 14 drinks per week.

But teetotallers who exercised at least moderately were able to reduce their risk of heart disease, an important finding for people who abstain because of religious beliefs or other health issues such as pregnancy, the researchers said.

People who had the lowest risk of dying from any cause were physically active, moderate drinkers while those at highest risk were the physically inactive, heavy drinkers, the study found.

Yes well have too played Ironwood probably about 25 years ago. never broke 40 myself 40 best evershot Millcreek Park Youngstown. Up down all the time. Well let em get back to Beer thread.
  • Wes, I tried that Shiner Black last night. It was pretty good. It had a slight burnt taste at first. But after that is is a very rich, not heavy Lager with a very good aroma. And its very dark. Like the Bock should be. LOL I have a picture of it on my phone but can not find the wire right now. Will go back and buy the rest in stock. I went to Bennigans last night. They ran out of the Tap version. I may try another tonight, I actually think it would taste better out of a keg. And normally I am a Bottle Baby over the keg version.

  • I wonder if the moderate drinking is really beneficial or if it is an indicator of other things. Such as the social aspects of drinking. Perhaps the fact that teetotalers (in my experience) tend to be a little uptight about a lot of things.

Thanks for the info. Have you had any other Shiner products besides the Bock? You should really try them, they are very good and usually a better price than comparable stuff because they are more local. Also look for St. Arnold's, that is a brewery here in Houston that only distributes locally. I love their Elissa IPA, all their brews are top notch.

Have only tried the Bock on tap. Maybe I should try a bottle. I will try them, there are quite a few. Is the Blonde thier lite beer? Or is it aimed at women. I mean I would not want to buy one if its really made for Paul(a)Astonished
  • When you keg your homebrews to be carbonated (not forced) d\o you still put a little C02 in it to clear out the air inside? I never can wait so I force mine. My kegs have been sitting empty for a few months now. I been bottling the beers as of late. But I want to get a lot ahead for spring.
