After recently attending the Level 3 training course at Hexagon Metrology I noticed that using clay as a quick fixturing device was more ubiquitous than I thought. We have some clay here in our lab that we use from time to time, but it's pretty 'greasy' to say the least. The clay they had at Hexagon appeared to leave little to no residue on the CMM plates or the parts (not to mention...your hands).
So, I was wondering, for those of you who use clay to fixture parts, what kind of clay are you using? Links to possible vendor(s)? Much appreciated!
I rarely use clay on the CMM, but I do use it for holding things on the optical comparator. It is just cheap modeling clay I got in the TOY department at Wal-Mart. Yes it does leave a residue, but a little alcohol and a paper towel take care of that.

Also, when you finish using the stuff that's for cleaning the TP20 magnetic connections, you can ball it up and use it.

If your like me that stuff for the connections last a really long time and I have a lot of it (get it with every module TP20 & SP25 24 module total). You could also buy the cleaning kit from Renishaw (A-1085-0016 $18) just for the putty. Of course I only spent $2 for a box of modeling clay and that was 12 years ago and I still have about half the clay left.

It does last a long time. I just finished a pack of the putty (for its intended use), someone had borrowed my clay and I realized the putty would work.

ah HA! I shall try this! Something tells me that's what Hexagon had at their offices all over the place. Kind of silly putty colored stuff?
Play-Doh is the ticket. Just keep it sealed tite when not in use.
(smelled pretty cool to me when i was a kid) i think i ate half the can when mom wasn't looking.
doesn't matter the color, it tastes the same regardless. and much chewier than the double-sided 3M stuff.
