I have found that you need to load the extended version of .net Framework 4 rather than the client version. The file name that worked for me is "dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe" from the Microsoft site rather than "dotNetFx40_Client_setup.exe". The 2012 software loaded after installing the full version.
