Is this a Leitz controller? If so, it will communicate via serial (RS-232) or Ethernet cable. When you start PC-DMIS and TCP/IP faisl, it should ask if you want to switch to serial. If it does, select YES, for now anyway. Once inside PC-DMIS, you can go to Edit - Preferences - Machine Interface Setup and click on the Leitz Protocol Setup tab. Iin there, at the top right, is a button labeled "Terminal". Click on that,, which will open a terminal session. Then hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard and type the letters E C B which should return a READY response. Now you can enter commands like SHOW HOST_IP and SHOW CNTRL_IP which show return the IP address of the computer and the controller respectively. Start there and see if anything looks out of place.
