I've found this great tutorial on iterative alignment which was posted on this forum,
http://cmmquarterly.mbccmm.com/index.php/training/pc-dmis/30-alignments-how-to and I've read it 10 times, but I'm not sure how it can lend itself to my current sheet metal part.

I can't seem to wrap my head around how I can pick 3 vector points as per the tutorial vs the print showing 3 points on 2 planes, and that it is still Datum -A-. Is it really that simple? Does iterative do all the work?
