need help with an alignment

hello everyone I have a gage I need to measure but cant seem to figure out how to do the alignment. I cant use a 3-2-1 alignment because the CAD model doesn't match the part, which is fine but I cant seem to get this figured out. I start off by leveling to the top face, then taking 2 points on the front face just for a rotation, and I then take a point at the flat of the left hex for my Y origin. the only thing I cant figure out is how to get the x origin, there is no surface on the inside of the hex that will work, ideally I want my origin to be dead center of the left hex, but am struggling. again, the perimeter of the CAD model does not match the part.

I will try to post a pic of the model below. Thanks for any help!

  • quick question, sorry for bringing this back up, but how would I go about doing a scan with an internal hex feature? the new print I have is calling for a surface profile dimension now. (no longer alignment question) Thanks!

    You can either do Auto Vector point or edge points and report out the "T" value. Unless you want to create a scan(Linear closed or perimeter).
    Pretty much open to programming wantsWink
