PC-DMIS Gear 2.5 verse Qunindos Gear 7?

Hello there.

My requirement is to measure and report on SPUR (straight, helical & double helical) and BEVEL (straight, spiral) gears. Could anyone share an opinion on PC-DMIS Gear Verse Qunindos Gear?

Additional questions:

  1. Am I correct in thinking that whilst both software packages cover my measurement requirement, Quindos is more comprehensive (and complex)? Is it overkill for my requirements?

  2. I read here that PCDMIS gear use advanced gear measurement algorithms of QUINDOS - is this true?

  3. Since Quindos is certified by Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) of Germany - is the same true for PC-DMIS?

  4. I read here for Quindos that all travel paths, probing points and scanning lines are created automatically - does the same hold true for PC-DMIS Gear?

  5. Why has Hexagon developed two different software packages for gear inspection? (What is the history?)

Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks very much for your reply EZalg as it was really useful.

    • I obtained a sample report from PC-DMIS Gear (attached in case anyone else is looking for one)
    • I am awaiting a reply from PTB (Germany's national metrology institute) and will post back here on certification confirmation for PC-DMIS Gear
    • On Gear Standards (from hexagon here): PC-DMIS Gear supports a wide range of international (gear) standards including AGMA 2000-A88, DIN 3962, JIS B 1702 and ISO 1328
