PC-DMIS Gear 2.5 verse Qunindos Gear 7?

Hello there.

My requirement is to measure and report on SPUR (straight, helical & double helical) and BEVEL (straight, spiral) gears. Could anyone share an opinion on PC-DMIS Gear Verse Qunindos Gear?

Additional questions:

  1. Am I correct in thinking that whilst both software packages cover my measurement requirement, Quindos is more comprehensive (and complex)? Is it overkill for my requirements?

  2. I read here that PCDMIS gear use advanced gear measurement algorithms of QUINDOS - is this true?

  3. Since Quindos is certified by Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) of Germany - is the same true for PC-DMIS?

  4. I read here for Quindos that all travel paths, probing points and scanning lines are created automatically - does the same hold true for PC-DMIS Gear?

  5. Why has Hexagon developed two different software packages for gear inspection? (What is the history?)

Thanks in advance.

  • The difference could be that the Quindos Gear creates the features natively, the gear program constructs the features directly and not using another program for feature generation. PC-DMIS Gear is just a front-end for the feature generation (which is done in and by PC-DMIS) and here is what I would say the major difference could be - Quindos Gear is a program with native feature generation, whilst PC-DMIS Gear is not.

I don't use any of the software, but I do know that PC-DMIS Gear does the evaluation and PC-DMIS program generation (and some PC-DMIS versions are PTB-certified) but PC-DMIS Gear doesn't generate the features, thus no need for it to be PTB-certified?
