Locking in Basic Dimensions to center of Circle/ Radius

I program/ operate a global performance 7.10.7 CMM and I am running 2014 version of PC DMIS.

I am attempting to measure some radii that are located by basic dimensions. What is the best way to do this? I tried to input theoretical values of X, Y, Z, and the diameter in an auto circle format, using a "Fixed Radius" equation. When I execute the auto circle (manually) the radius (value [size]) remains locked but the locating dimensions change, from the theoretical values, to actual values, based on actual hits. Since the locating dimensions are basic I am really looking for the X, Y values to remain constant (locked) and the size of the radii to change based on the actual hits.

Should I be using a different equation when measuring the arc(s)? Any suggestions are appreciated.

P.S - This is a cast part. I am thinking that the imperfections, highs and lows, of the radii are causing PC DMIS to mis-locate the radii because the hits are so "out of round". Please help. Thanks!

  • THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL THE HELP! Really appreciate all the responses.

I am going to have to make some time to try the method you suggested. "Making the auto-vector theoretically perfect to the radius" is something I have yet to try. Also editing the pattern is new to me. But then again, this is ALL new to me. Anyways, thanks again for all the advice.
