Measuring a circle in a tube

How can I measure a circle cut into a tube? The cmm won't take all the pre-hits because of the curve of the tube. It is a 40mm circle cut into a 76.20mm tube.

  • I believe that Josh is right, the best solution is using edge points. The problem is to create the good work plane for projection.
Maybe doing it by 2 steps would give a better result :
measuring the tube as a cylinder
measuring some edge points and create a 3d circle (or a cylinder, it should work)
Create a line perp to the tube through the circle
    align on it
measure edge points and create a 2d circle.
