"Cannot find Nominals"

Hi,

I am having an issue when running a programme on PCDMIS 2014 SP4. A "cannot find nominals" text box is popping up when running certain programmes.

What I would really appreciate is, what exactly is causing this to pop up and are there any consequences for ignoring the message.

For Example if I click yes and update previous scans or if I say ignore and don't update scans, will this have an effect on the results?

I am not the one who writes the programmes (Guys in the US do this O am from Ireland!) and our programmers don't seem to know how to resolve the issue nor do they know what are the consequences for selecting yes or no on the text box.

A fix for this and some insight into how and why it comes up would be seriously appreciated!

  • My problem is, is that the programmers are saying that hitting No and No on the Dialogue boxes will not result in any issue or compromisation to the Part being measured. From what is being said above this is not the case. So unfortunately, it is this forum that is helping me understand what is going on with the issue.


    If you hit "No" and "No" it means that you are electing not to increase the FindNominals tolerance and are also electing not to delete the hits for which nominals could not be found. So now you will have hits in your scan that you know full well do not have correctly associated nominal values. I'm not going to say that there is never an application where this will make sense but it will be exceedingly rare for this to be the best strategy.

    In almost all situations you either need to say "Yes" to the first dialogue and find a tolerance that works or say "No" to the first one and then say "Yes" to the second one so that you delete the hits that do not have proper nominals.

    Of these two options the first one is the most often the best approach. The second option should only be done if you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing and what the consequences will be.

    I have, on occasion, employed the second strategy as a way to trim scans right to the edge of a specific surface but that is a very specific, and likely not a very typical, situation.

    I am facing similar kind of issue. However in my case, I am not seeing any dialogue box but when I finish a scan and use XactMeasure to report the output, I get deviation as .001". if I hit F9 and click on GET NOMINALS and click OK to close edit box, PC-DMIS ask me if I want to update nominals. If I click YES, the profile output rose to 0.063" in deviation. I am using a 3mm probe or (.118" dia or .059" radius).

    Is PC-DMIS gets confused on calculating the output? Which results should I trust? .001" or .063"? I am also posting before and after code.

    I didn't change the scan in meantime. I don't understand where it the error coming from.
  • I can't upload picture of edit window due to usergroup's data limit. it says I only have 10.9KB left out of 1MB. What is that?
  • I found the answer. My probe compensation was turned off in my edit window. I am not sure why though as I never changed it.
