Requirements for Re-Locating a CMM

What are the requirements to move a Hexagon SF7107? I don't have the original shipping braces. Can I purchase new ones? Does a technician have to over see the move? Or just recalibrate it after it's moved?

  • Tell your boss that he didn't buy a caliper, he bought a $70k-$100K precision instrument that needs to be properly taken care of.

I HIGHLY suggest getting professionals to move the CMM. You NEED (not recommend, NEED) to re-calibrate this machine after you move it.

I'm sorry you work for someone who doesn't "get it", that always makes the day harder. If I was in your shoes (bear in mind I am a jerk and have NO ISSUES pushing the buttons of others)...just have it moved by whatever means they decide, do not re-qualify the tips, and just let it crash all day long until you create a production stop. Then when everyone scrambles, just say "well the cmm needs to be re-calibrated due to the move, I got a quote, and upper management decided it wasn't necessary". You gain credibility and that a-hole won't challenge you anymore.
  • If they replaced me I'd just go to walmart and greet the daily shoppers. I don't really need to work anymore, I'm just bored
