So, downloaded 2020R2 and I am having issues understanding some of the new changes, for example on the size gd&t feature tab if I use a cylinder for example UAME is the mating envelope I'm assuming, but below it it gives the local size. My question is how is it calculating this or what math type is being utilized because when I use that same cylinder to dimension the diameter using just the standard location tab it's not the same diameter, I've never really worked with that before so any information would be helpful.
Y14.5.1-2019 added two definitions for “Actual Local Size”. The two methods for calculating actual local size are Opposed Points and Circular Elements (only for cylindrical features of size). As the names imply, evaluating local size by the opposed points method will report the worst local size from two opposing points. Evaluating local size by the circular elements method requires your data to be measured in circular cross sections (perpendicular to the axis) and it fits a circle to the measured data using a traditional or constrained least squares algorithm if the chosen math type is LSQ or DEFAULT, respectively.
You don’t need to report local size as it is an option.
