Angle alignment

Dear sir,
I have a part having datum A as plane, Datum B&Datum C as circle but the Datum B is with an angle to Datum A, it is not perpendicular to Datum A so when i going to call the position of some circles wrt ABC then a message show as secondary is neither parallel nor perpendicular to primary so tertiary is not allowed..

Thanks in advance.

Remember these two classifications of feature types: vector reducible and point reducible. Vector reducible features: Plane, Cylinder, Cone, Line /\/\/\ Point reducible features: Circle, Sphere, Point.

Vector reducible features have directions associated with them, so they can be used to establish a rotation in an alignment (or FCF). Point reducible features don't have a direction, so you can't use only one, you must use two.

When you measure a circle, it's a point reducible feature, and is also projected to the workplane. If you're measuring the circle on an angled hole, unless you're squaring up the hole in the alignment, you aren't measuring what you think you're measuring - you're measuring an ellipse. You need to measure the angled datum as a cylinder, this will give it the direction it needs to be used as a secondary datum.

  • Post a drawing ? ROTATE to a BASIC from -A- ? Tough to make the call without seeing print ? Just because some drafting genius but A-B-C- on a print means the callout constrains all 6 DOF, or even comes close ?
  • I have had similar prints where I am sure the datum callouts for true position were chosen at random. Does the print specifically call out the datum as a circle or is it the feature? If the circle is a hole with depth, I would try using the cylinder that is the hole itself as the datum instead of the the circle.
  • Thanks for your valuable response, i will try the same.
