PC DMIS running out of order?

I seem to get this problem a lot. I'm running a Romer arm, so my hits are manual. All my programs are fairly straightforward; touch off the datums to align the part, then start from the top and work to the bottom. However PCDMIS seems to have different ideas when actually executing the programs.

About 60% of the time, I can get about half way through with no problems. But then for no particular rhyme or reason, once I pull the trigger to start a feature, say CIR 8, it decides that I'm actually checking PLN 4 with is like 6 features down the list. I don't really know what the heck is going on. Like, maybe if the features were close enough together I could take a guess that it's trying to auto decide? But sometimes these features are 4 or 5 inches apart. Sometimes it will jump backwards to a feature I already measured!

If I continue with the feature I had originally hit, it comes up OOT at the end of the program. If I undo the first hit and check the feature PCD is telling me to check, the original feature I was supposed to check is OOT, if it even lets me continue checking further features. So pretty much whenever it does that, I have to cancel the execution and start checking the part over. Usually by the 4th or 5th time I check it, it does it the right way.

This is extremely frustrating and a complete waste of time. Especially with parts like that I'm trying to check right now, that take about 20 minutes to run through without it messing up on me. Has anybody had this happen to them? Is it some kind of bug in the system, or do I just have gremlins in my computer? How can I fix this so it stops happening all the dang time?!
