Perimeter scan - Does CAD matter after initial creation?

I am trying to perform a perimeter scan on a rather petite surface whose size is comparable to it deviation in location. In other words, the position of the surface will occasionally vary by a greater distance that the features size. So I am taking many points on the surrounding features and creating a best fit alignment for that small region containing my feature.

My question is does this even matter with a perimeter scan? After the perimeter scan is created, does it use the cad model during execution. If you delete the CAD model from a program with perimeter scans, will the scans still function?

Another question, are perimeter scans reliable/stable? Are they commonly used?

  • If FINDNOMS is on you want the CAD, you could try changing it to Master and try it. I just started using Perimeter scans on complex profiles. They work pretty good, but are limited in that you cannot really control how fast the scan goes. It will slow down when approaching certain radial features. which in my case is all of it....lol. So it is not very efficient. Hopefully they will makes this type of scan more powerful.
