something changed in my program template that will not let me pick on the model but works in my old template, any ideas?

Are you in WIREFRAME mode instead of SURFACE mode?

No, and also when I import a cad save it then close it and reopen it the model is gone.

has your license been fubared? Check in the ABOUT window of Pcdmis and in the drop-down MODULE list make sure you have it.

the license is good, it's ok if I bring in a step file but not ok if I bring in a CAD file

you mean a PCDMIS CAD file? Are you importing it by reference only or straight up importing it?
