Calibrating after homing

Is it correct that after the machine is re-homed, you only need to re calibrate the “master” tip at 0,0 saying “yes” the tool has moved? All of the other tips do not need to be done because they will relate back to the previous position. Homing should be the same as just moving the cal sphere to a different location right?

  • Maybe this simple question is not as simple that it seems...
Homing the machine between to calibrations just add a offset to the second tip calibration from the first.
If you have to home the cmm while a part is on the granite, you can imagine that the part and the sphere move of the same distances from zero, so calibrate tips without saying "yes" should work as well and keep the accuracy... It allows to continue the measurement without re-run the part from the start (IMO)...
I think auto-calibration is also made for it...
