Measuring the size of a 3 Sided Polygon

Hello Everyone,

Just a cmm noob with another question. My company needs me to verify thesize of a polygon (3 sides). We do not have a go/no go pin in yet and they are asking for answers. PCDMIS is showing the Polygon to be larger than nominal and they do not believe my results. (Measured as Auto Polygon) Is there a secondary study I can do to prove the size of a polygon without using Auto Feature and in your experience is Auto feature on a polygon reliable when it comes to measuring Diameters. I would assume I need to do some sort of study and measure from the center of the rads to the Middle of the opposing lines and do some sort of Intersecting points. Using PCdmis 2021.1

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

  • Profile points could have also discovered that quickly. But what you did works good as well. I like using individual points so I can actually see what the surface is doing. is it straight? Is it tapering? Ect...
  • If you do not want to use the Tangent to 3 lines construction a method to use is.

    Measure the 3 lines.
Construct 3 mid lines from the measured lines, you may have to reverse the lines to get correct mid line.
Construct a point from the 3 mid lines, this will give he centre of the circle
Using Distance Dimension select the centre point and one of the lines, set Relationship to Feature, Orientation to Perpen To, Distance Type to 2 Dimension.
Change the output to none so this dimension is not reported.
Construct a Generic circle, use radius and input the distance dim as the measures Radius such as DIST1.MEAS.
    Report the generic circle diameter.
