no, you don't. The ONLY thing you have to do after turning the controller back on and homing the machine is to locate the qual-sphere by doing A0B0 with the master probe.
I would say it depends on a lot of parameters :
If the program isn't finish, you can't continue the measure the next day accurately
On some old cmms, the homing position was a contact, with a repeatability about 0.1 mm.
If you use a rotary table, homing the machine = calibrate the rotary
Another parameter is the air bearings : if the air pressure is associated to the power supply, then the air bearings are in contact (with granite, bridge, quill), then can be damaged by dust, the guide ways can be damaged also.
And the last point is the risk of crash of the power supply card in the controller with a lot of on/off,on/off......
So I'm not sure that turning off the cmm is a good idea, except for the planet..
I agree. I am not a fan of turning it off. However they turn off the compressors and the controller every night. Got to save a buck. I have no real good augment for them to leave it on.
I keep my Global S on almost always. If you leave for a week you can turn it off but just remember rehoming slightly changes your home position. (Varies between machines)

With the caveat that you only need to do that if you're then going to go on and calibrate more tips.
I shut down nightly due to the compressor getting shut off nightly. I rehome every morning and calibrate all probes every other week. No issues with accuracy and repeatability that I can notice.
