Probe drifting into groove wall while scanning

I'm pretty new to scanning, haven't taken the class yet but having an experienced programmer help me with it when he's available.

I'm trying to do a perimeter scan on the bottom of this groove that runs continuously around the part. My probe is oriented A0B0 and my scan path is in the middle of the groove and I have a moderate amount of clearance between the side walls of the groove and my probe.

the groove goes a few inches straight in X+ and then has a 28 degree angle towards Y+ and loops around with radii on all the corners. Z is constant.

So despite my scanning looking like it should be fine, I'm finding that on the first radius after the bend, it's colliding into the side wall. my scan speed is at 2.5 mm/sec so it's not going too fast for a Global S.

Any ideas why it might be having this issue?
