I have a drawing, for example, calling out datum -A- , co=planar 5 places/surfaces. Then a document/tolerance requirements of :
SO.... on the CMM, do I create -A- off of those 5 places/surfaces.... then create each plane , 5 times, and tolerance the profile for each 5? Thats what makes sense to me.
As you can see; (1a) is just one surface and that surface is to be flat w/.010 (this would NOT come into play with this particular drwg)
(1b) would be 5 surfaces..... and I would think I would establish -A- off those 5 surfaces combined.... then establish 5 seperate surfaces to tolerance each of those with the profile tolerance. Because otherwise how would I get a profile ?
I think they want to make sure that whether it is one surface or multiple surfaces, that it is collectively flat. I would treat option 1b as one profile controlling all of the surfaces at once, otherwise it would essentially be the same as option 1a.
