Unequally Disposed Profile

Hello all,

This is my first post, I am excited to have a forum to discuss PC-DMIS & GD&T with.
My question revolves around unequally disposed profiles, I am questioning the validity of a profile callout.
How would this tolerance be applied? I read it as 48.2 +0/-0.8, but am being told it is 48.2 +0.8/-0

Thank you for any help,
  • if your # on the CMM reads -48.2 then the +0.8 is correct so when dimensioned it should read -48.02 + 0.8= -47.4
  • The value AFTER the (U) is how much "stock on", so +0/-0.8.

BUT, the question is, WHAT side of the (thin) stock is the STOCK ON side? This is something that NO ONE on the standards committee seems to want to address. For a 'block' type part, yeah, stock on is pretty easy to figure out, BUT, when it is thin (plastic or sheet metal) WHICH WAY is 'stock on' as there isn't a 'stock on' condition for sheet metal (pretty sure it's the same for thin plastics). That picture is pretty cruddy for figuring out, but IMO, with the 'hidden line' on the print, the leaderline isn't in the right place. Hidden lines are the OLD SCHOOL way of showing which way the lopsided tolerance went. So, The BASIC dimension would be (again, IMO) 47.4 to 48.2. BUT, the +/- tolerance values will be based on WHICH SIDE OF STOCK you are checking.
  • Awesome, thank you guys! That is exactly how I read the frame
