2D Width - Position Geometric Tolerance Error

When attempting to create a position Geometric Tolerance command, I receive the error seen below. The constructed width is 2D (constructed from two parallel lines), but I'm receiving an error related to datum features before a datum feature is even defined. Is this behavior expected? I can make the error go away by choosing a primary datum that is nominally coplanar to the considered feature, but that is not what the drawing requires. If I need to measure the width as a 3D width, I can add some more hit data.

  • I am fairly sure that is normal. I think the intent is so that you cannot chose a position(among other GDAT callouts) that requires a relevant datum and finish the dimensioning without it. it's kind of like a fail safe, that's the way I look at it anyway. It will not let you choose inappropriate datums either. Depending on your print and datum structure, you may need to create a 3D width to satisfy this.
