Good afternoon, I’m hoping one of you professionals can help me out with this! I can’t seem to grasp what each of the values under Probe Utilities>Setup>Clearance Distance actually change.
I’m trying to get the probe to move up 8 inches above the Qualification Sphere (sphere points to Z+) when it’s at a 90 degree angle, but whenever it’s at A0B0 I get an error message saying it’s out of parameters.
When it is pointing down (A0 B0) 8" above the qualification sphere is over-travelling your Z.
Measure a sphere manually in a test program.
Zero XYZ on the sphere.
Pick up the probe all the way until it stops moving.
Look in the bottom right of the screen to see what your Z is (I'm betting less than 8").
I have a star probe that will hit the bridge unless I set the calibration order, which I do and save in a Parameter Set in the Probe Utilities dialogue after you select "Measure."
This takes some playing, but can be done. I'm trying to guess what might be happening in your title, "Probe Crashes into Bridge and ...", since your question seems to be only talking about what I'm pretty sure is an over-travel error.
The distance you are asking it to travel is from the qualification sphere to the ruby (or whatever your stylus is made from). If the distance from the sphere to the ruby is going to have the head inside the ram cover, or sticking out over the sides of the CMM, it is not going to make the move.
