4.5.4-SF Wont calibrate 1mmx22mm Probe

Hey guys. We are having an issue with our 4.5.4 where it wont calibrate the 1mm probe. So far I have changed the Tp-20 module, the 1mm probe it's self and even created a new probe profile. Have reset all tips and recalibrated the master probe and the 1.5MM probe just fine. Im out of ideas as to what the issue could be.

  • What do you mean it wont calibrate? is the StdDev failing? This is common on these probes due to the amount of flex in the shaft when taking polar hits or hits perpendicular to the surface of the probe shank.
Typically on calibrations I change my start and end angles so that PC-DMIS does not take any hits on the pole and I also adjust all of my part measurements so that I don't take perpendicular points either, there just isn't enough rigidity on a 1x22 probe to get reliable information.
  • .020mm StdDev is pretty common for a 1mm tip, I've seen as high as .035mm especially on the shop floor style CMM. I would perform some measurements with the probe to see exactly how far things are out. I can't stress enough that StdDev doesn't mean you failed your calibration though. The limit set in PC-DMIS by default is not tied to a pass/fail of a calibration. This is a user defined value and may need to be adjusted depending on your machine/probe configuration.
