Center axis as a datum not repeat

So here is what my opportunity for the day is.

Got a part with a lager Id bore that is datum b. Going into the part morr is a smaller bore with a position of .003 to b.

So my fcf used the drf to control it. Well the report does not show x and z as zeros. Engineering says datum b is zero so the report has to show everything as zero. So I did an alignment using just datum b( center line of the cylinder) the report show zeros but bad position and does not repeat. What am I missing

  • Here's some ammunition to counter your manager's assertion that 6 points are sufficient for a cylinder...

    ASME Y14.5 - 2018, section 4, Fundamental Rules.

4.1 (o) UOS, all tolerances and datum features apply for full depth, length and width of the feature.

    and

4.1 (s) All elements of a surface shall be within the applicable specified tolerance zone boundaries.

He should also read section 5.8 and 5.8.1 which talk about limits of size and the envelope principle (variations of form).

How would you ensure that your parts meet those requirements if you are only sampling 6 points?

Once again thank you. I already showed them that. They said and I quote " no company anywhere follows any rule to the letter of the law we do not have time to measure parts this way. Our shipments are so low this mo th due to quality issues we will be in the red. We also know that even if the drawing and asme say what they say the part will function as it is over tolerance."
