Thanks for reading and perhaps offering some insight. Is it possible to do readpoint alignment without cad? Or would I need to pick the part up manually each time? Thanks.
You need some method of making the part (presumably) square to the machine axis.
You measure (presumably) the datum features. (I like to touch a Z and XY (I'm usually in a hole for my read points) so I'm not worried about the users eyeball error on the point, but you don't strictly HAVE to do that)
Make a DCC alignment from the datum features.
Measure the entire part, as you see fit.
Nothing requires CAD in that process.
As with all programming without CAD, you just need to know where the part is to touch it.
In this case, you need to know where the datums are in relation to the read point, then just move to them and measure.
The read point never has anything to do with the model, technically, it is just a point that you know its relation to the datums so you can go measure them and align.
my only note to this is you don't necessarily need to know where the datums are in relation to the readpoint. only the features you want to use to start your alignment with.
