Looking to upgrade

Good day to all;
My shop is looking to upgrade our CMM, we currently have 2 machines a 4.5.4 SF and a 7.10.7 SF both Hexagon Brown and Sharp.
We have 2 ideas for an upgrade. 1st- We are thinking of trading in the 4.5.4 sf for a 7.10.7 Global with scan capabilities(which we currently don't have) we will then have a 7.10.7 sf and a 7.10.7 global.
2nd- We are thinking of trading in both 4.5.4 and 7.10.7 for a one machine a Global S, with probing capabilities. The Global S is a bigger and better machine, at least that is what I have read and heard. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. We are in need of an upgrade, we do not have scanning capabilities.

  • When we first bought a CMM, we were trying to decide between a 9-12-8 and a 9-20-8. It came down to we were mostly just buying more granite and a longer Y axis scale. Good thing we went with the longer CMM. We've had a bunch of complicated long molded Base Pans that we've measured on it the past 22 years.

    There may be some relatively minor grumbling about the additional cost and the space required, but it's nothing compared to what would happen if the new CMM was too small.
