Noob alert. I have a part that vaguely looks like my drawing below. I'm trying to measure the 2D distance between lines 1 and 3. I measured the lines with plane 3 as my projection plane. When I try to dimension the distance between the two lines on the CAD model, it comes up as 1.054. It should be 154. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. The only way it will give me close to 154 is if I select 3D distance, but that's technically not right. Please forgive my "noobiness" and my comically simple drawing. Any ideas?
So, when working with features on plane that's not parallel to any of the workplanes like on this part, it's better to create another alignment, level to that plane, and then use it as your workplane as opposed to creating a user defined projection plane?
