Issue with rotating head

My machine tries to rotate to say a90b80 and it only gets to say a40b80…same issue with a few other tip angles…then, I believe it tries to probe the cal sphere with the head at the wrong angle, and of course the tip is no where near the cal sphere so “probing not within limitation.” I believe that is the error. I haven’t seen it happen in action yet, but when I returned to the inspection lab I believe the red light on the head is turned off and the head is disengaged. If I recall correctly, I don’t think I had to hit the estop to reset the jog box. I cancelled running the program, then I typed tip/T1A0B0. When it asked to rotate to A0B0 I clicked yes and it worked fine. Then I tried the same thing with the tip angle in question (a90b80). Again, rotated fine. So I’m not understanding why my program won’t run through…

Any ideas what the problem might be? I tried changing the probe module and wiping down the scales. No luck.

So far, this issue is only happening with my auto calibrate program (which calibrates “all tip angles”). I haven’t tested running a part because the machine is not fully calibrated. However, my auto calibrate program has been unchanged for about a year now…I don’t believe I have even added a single tip angle recently…my autocalibrate program has been working so well up until now!

Sorry for the wall of text, I am just trying to figure this out. Tomorrow I can try calibrating different probes and see if there’s the same issue with the other probes.

  • Thanks for the input fellas. One idea I had was to delete those tip angles and use the -90 angles instead, but that's probably a very temporary fix.

    I'll refer to Hexagon for instructions on how to proceed with possibly cleaning the head.

    Honestly, when they came to do the calibration last winter they did a pretty poor job cleaning the machine, which I believe the PO requires. I think all they did was wipe the scales, and they did more harm than good. When they left, there was residue on the Z-axis scale from their cleaning agent, which caused the machine to error out. It took me a few hours to figure out what the problem was...

  • Neither of the two calibrations at my current company had they even removed the baffles to even look at the scales, let alone clean them. I thought maybe it was because we don't have the SMA. Haha! Seems everywhere else I worked, the covers were all removed and the machine was cleaned and dusted from top to bottom.
