Is Datum A the Center axis of cylinder or single surface?

So i am doing some training and came across this print. This part is prior to my employment here at the company. How do you interpret this datum? on a section cut of a cylinder.

  • Presuming that is a bore, -A- is the bore.

I would presume that wherever they dimensioned the bore itself, they also put the -A- tag, and this is just to help keep track through various views.

While I wouldn't put anything past some of today's engineers, you can't say a single line up the wall of a bore is a datum, not and expect any two people to get the same results inspecting, anyway.

This is the only location datum A is identified. Or else i would have agreed with you. I think they intended for it to be the center axis. but ya never know Neutral face
