Good morning everyone. Well it's that time again where every century the IT people here throw us a bone and let us upgrade our PCDMIS software. Currently we have been using PCDMIS 2020 mr1. Nice. Stable for the most part. So I throw out to all of you, what newer version are you happy with and some reasons why or more...on other versions, why not! I have found that this forum has saved us lots of time and pain thru the years helping us in the past get more classic versions like the old 3.7 avoiding ones like 3.5 which was a disaster years ago. So let me know what newest version you have and are comfortable with! thanks!
3.5 was a decent version, it was 3.6 that tech support told people to remove from their computers (and the 4's weren't much better)....
that being said, to go higher than 2020mr1 I you will be getting into the ALL NEW range of Pcdmis, all new dimensioning, no more 'back saving' to older versions, etc.
When we got our new machine last year we also got a new computer from Hexagon with the installation. It's a Lenovo ThinkStation, and we have 64GB of RAM I know for sure.
Sorry, forgot to mention we stuck with 2021.2. We are quite comfortable with this and wary of updating.
Running the latest and I am quite happy. There are quite a number of bad apples in the release history, but the versions from the 2020's are pretty stable.
Whoa! Matthew! To go to higher version means I lose my ability to backsave to older versions? That is a critical comment as we have almost a dozen cmm's about the facility and the IT department is only going to upgrade the offline seats first with the online machines following suit a month or 2 later.. That being said, programs created on the offline seats wouldn't be able to communicate to the older version machines!
Single processor speed should be highest available, RAM amount is also important. Spending a ton on a graphics card is pointless. There is also a limit to how far "forward you can migrate your programs.
There is a thread about that as well. I would personally run 2020 R1 for a while .
anything above 2020 R2 is backward compatible if you use legacy only to dimension as Matthew stated. to elaborate a little, if you use 2020 R2 and above with geo-tol and save to or below version 2020 R1 anything dimensioned with geo-tol will get "commented out" and you will have to re-dimension after resaving. we have the same issue as you where IT updated our offline PCs to newer towers and put 2022 on without telling us. We then had to force them to update all of our cmms PCs towers hardware and version to 2022.
I'd like to thank all the people who responded to this. Sometimes going forward creates two steps back. I think ill promote staying put for the time being.
