Surface Simulation: Math Failed for Width

I have a block that I need to measure all sides, which then has a true position callout to the bore that runs through it. I am placing it on it's side, so I am simulating one plane by taking hits on the post it rests on. I am trying to construct a width, and yes I created a reverse plane to make sure their vectors are opposing. Points are taken in the same place on both opposing sides.

I received this error: "Math failed. Make sure that the areas of the inputs overlap."

Am I not able to create a width with a constructed plane and a reverse plane? Is there a work around? I am trying to avoid writing two programs. Never seen this before nor have I tried simulating a surface in a constructed width. Hence my head scratcher.
