Has anyone ever measured involute sprockets with the Gear software package. THe issue I am having is that the pitch diameter of the involute sprocket is larger than the major diameter. Therefore, the tooth thickness at pitch diameter is a negative number. The software does not seem to be set-up to handle this situation. Any help would be appreciated.
I may have discovered a way around my problem. Using the original pitch diameter, pressure angle and tooth thickness values, I recalculated a new pitch diameter, pressure angle and tooth thickness centrally between the major and minor diameters on the involute curve. This works well with the CAM system. I am yet to verify with the Gear software. I will update when I confirm this works.
Recalculating a new pitch diameter, pressure angle, and tooth thickness (using the original involute data) does work with the gear software. You have to calculate the tolerance for the new tooth thickness from the original data. If anyone is interested, I will be happy to share the formulas required to calculate the new parameters.
